1. You've had a huge influence on my musical tastes (garbage, radio iodine, etc), what should my next new favorite band be?
Hmmm. It's been a while since I actively sought out new music, and a long time since I paid much attention to what's going on. I would give a listen to the album _Dos Dedos Mis Amigos_ by Pop Will Eat Itself. I think you would like them.

2. What's the worst lie you ever told, and if you were in the same situation today, how would you handle it differently?

By "worst", I'm going to assume "the one that did the most damage" or "the one you most regret". Because I've told, in the past, a couple of rather large ones that didn't hurt anyone at all, so I don't really consider them "worst."

There are two. The first is the lie I told to beautiful English boy about being faithful to him. He deserved a thousand times better than me, and I was so hungry to have everything I wanted, that I was unable to make a choice, and I ended up hurting a number of people in the process. If I were in the same situation /today/? I simply wouldn't do it. I would either 1) not cheat on him or 2) leave him. He deserved honesty, I didn't give it to him.

The second is one I told to Doc that, if I hadn't, we could've sorted through a lot of problems earlier, and maybe not spent so much time dwelling on it. But that's between me and Doc, so I'm not going to bring it up here. :)

3. Which is more important, excitement or stability? Why?

Both of them are important. Extremely so, to me. But /more/ important? Stability. Because you can always create excitement when you have stability, but the same can't be said in reverse. Chaos is exciting, but it doesn't pay the bills. Psychodrama is exciting, but it will eventually drive you over the edge. However, having said that, I couldn't exist happily without excitement, so it's a vital thing.

4. Poof - you're a literary critic. Which author would you peg as the most overrated? Not in terms of "they're popular, but they write crap" but "they're well-respected, but I think they're a hack". Why does your view differ from the mainstream?

I'm trying to recall the last book I read that I didn't like. Or the last author I read that I just couldn't stand. I guess I'd have to say Tom Robbins, author of _Even Cowgirls get the Blues_ and _Still Life with Woodpecker_ and etc. I enjoyed the first listed, but everything else I've ever read has felt like utter and pretentious crap to me. I guess it's that second word that explains why I feel that way. I have a low tolerance for pretention, and Robbins feels, to me, like an author who is trying way too hard to be way too hip and simply comes across as being pretentious and appealing to people who are also pretentious. Not that I'm saying that people who like him are automatically pretentious -- just that it appeals to pretentious people as well.

5. Do you believe in an afterlife? If so, describe it.

Whores and donuts and cheese that I like and can eat without getting sick! Oh wait, no.

Seriously, I don't know anymore. I used to believe strongly in an afterlife. But now it's up in the air. I'm not sure it matters, to be honest. It's not going to change the way I live my life. It's interesting that I can consider myself Christian and yet not know or care about the afterlife, but there it is. It's a good question, I just can't answer it yet.

As for #1 -- too late. I bought that on your advice _years_ ago.

I like about half the tracks and dislike the rest. I used to use Ich Bin Ein Auslander as part of my workout mix.
