Two very different people have read the first 7-8 chapters of my novel and both have had very similar reactions. I'm happy about this. Very happy. I knew the guys liked it, but they're a little biased, so it's good to have reactions from people who aren't quite as biased. It gives me motivation to finish it, and it's my goal to have a draft of it done by the end of the summer.

Of course, since my /other/ goal is to have a draft of my dissertation done by the end of the summer, I'm almost positive I won't meet the first goal. But hey, it's good to have dreams.

I went out last night with Doc and D for dinner after helping Doc get all packed up, and found myself crying over barbecue at the thought of Doc leaving. I swear, if one more thing happens in the next week to make me sad, I'm going to shoot something.

Leo died Thursday morning, but we're not going up to Rochester for the funeral or anything, because my Dad needs to stay home. He flew back from China, went straight to Phoenix to see my Uncle, then had to stay for his funeral and interment and stuff. He finally just got back to San Antonio, and he's just too worn out to travel right now. I think it's better that he goes up later and visits with the family when things aren't so hectic anyway.

My brother will be here later today, he's staying until Friday. And then, on Friday, we have the event. I'm hoping and praying that it doesn't rain. If it doesn't rain, the space we have will be fine. If it /does/ rain? Oh man, I don't even want to think about it. :)

Lots of stuff on my mind lately. But it's still rummaging around up in the brain, and hasn't made its way to my fingers, so I'm not ready to write about it, but it might make its way to livejournal soonish.
