Ugh. I can't even begin to express how much this morning sucks.

I could /not/ sleep last night, despite my most valiant efforts. So, I got to sleep around ... I dunno, 2:30, 3:00 maybe. With four or five wake-ups before the alarm finally went off at 6:30.

I know I set this schedule myself so that I could manage to get both Thursday and Friday off every week, but Jesus, this is going to get old really fast if my sleep schedule doesn't get into some kind of order.

In other news, I did a little bit of work on my dissertation this weekend. Kind of. I had found someone's MA Thesis online which dealt tangentially with the work that I'm doing. So I read it this weekend, to get a list of her sources, and see what she had to say. And dearlord was it bad. There were problems with this thesis that I wouldn't accept from my freshmen, much less from a graduate student.

It was both heartening and disheartening. On the one hand, it speaks volumes about education these days. On the other, it's one less bit of competition to worry about. My hope is that most of the job market is like that when I hit it.

My father managed to convince my mother that going to China would be a good thing, and so they're selling the house, selling the cars, paying off all the debts, and moving to China. My dad's back there now, he'll return in the summer, and then leave again in the fall, and my mom will join him in the Spring of 2004. But they'll both be here for the wedding, or there will be heads rolling.

Which brings me to the bit of excitement from last week! I found the fabrics for my dress! I went to a Bridal Fabric Store, and that was a BAD idea. I got sticker shock at the 800.00 worth of fabric I would need. Then I went to a plain ol' fabric store and found someone who had made the exact pattern of my dress, and she pulled out lots and lots of fabric swatches for me to test, and told me what she recommended, and it all came to less than 200.00. I haven't bought them yet, cause my dad thinks he can get cheaper at the silk markets in China, and I'm going to let him check first, but I think the cost of sending yards and yards of fabric from China will deter him, and I'll just end up buying it here.

The rundown is Duchesse (Dutchess? It was spelled like four different ways) Satin for the underdress, and a nice, flowy non-beaded lace for the overdress with something called Glitter for the sleeve poufs and beaded lace trim for the edges of the overdress and the insert that goes under the neckline. I looked at taffeta (blech) and brocade, but brocade just doesn't seem to make sense with lace -- they clash, and regular bridal satin, but I liked the softer, duller color and feel more than the shiny stiffness of the bridal satin.

Yeah, that was a girly ramble. Whoda thunk it?

Oh, and for the record, UNO still sucks. Took even MORE money from us this semester. Fuckers. Luckily it doesn't effect our ability to pay bills this time around.
