Interview IX

1. Obligitory wedding question: Why do weddings take so long to plan and it is really possible to have fun with the process?

They take so long because the wedding industry has forced that. If you want a photographer, you have to book him way in advance. If you want to marry at a plantation, you have to book that way in advance. If you want a ... well, you get the picture. There's lots of little details, but I'm not too worried, I think it'll all come together. And I /do/ think it's possible to have fun with the process as long as you're not a stress-inclined person. To me, thinking about and planning the wedding is a stress releaser. I love going through wedding things. But it can be stressful too, especially if what you want and what you can afford are two different things. We've been conditioned to want certain things out of weddings, and the wedding industry personnel make us feel like crap if we can't expect the very best of what they have to offer. If you realize that and don't give a shit what the wedding industry thinks, you can have a great time.

2. Have you ever made a purchase and then later went "why"? What was it?

Oh, I'm sure. I'm sure there's lots of clothes I feel that way about. As for major purchases? I haven't bought enough major purchases to really feel that way about any of them. I try not to buy things unless I really want them.

3. I'm desperate for something new to read. What do you recommend to just about everyone in this position?

Steve Erickson, _Arc d'X_; Jeff Noon _Vurt_ and _Nymphomation_; Neil Gaiman _Neverwhere_ and _American Gods_; Milan Kundera _The Unbearable Lightness of Being_; Patrick Susskind _Perfume_

4. Blue, red, or black?

Blue. Navy blue, royal blue, light blue, sky blue, midnight blue, blue blue blue blue blue!
